PANTONE 18-3838 ULTRA VIOLET, PANTONE® COLOR OF THE YEAR 2018
What comes to mind when we think of Ultra-Violet, or the color purple? The late Prince, Barney the dinosaur, fantasy, and serenity are some things that I think of. I’m just looking around my own home and I can’t find anything in this trending shade.
Although ultra-violet is the color of Royalty, to me, it is a fun, whimsical shade. Around the home, in full strength, it’s best used in small doses, highlighting art, accessories, afghans, pillows and accent objects. When it comes to home decor trends and mass merchandising, we will most likely see more available in softened shades of this hue. Linens and bath towels in pale lavender are pretty, whereas in the living room, a couple of pillows in Ultra Violet adds interest with a pop of strong color.
I am curious to see how Ultra Violet will be accepted. Can it become more mainstream because it is proclaimed “Color of the Year?” I hope so, because I’m ready for something new. I look forward to seeing unique color combinations using Ultra Violet in the upcoming years. For the present time it is a great companion to all the grey tones we are still seeing.
