Classic Blue, Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2020

Pantone announced that its 2020 Color of the Year is Classic Blue. It’s a shade reminiscent of the sky at dusk. PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue is the technical reference to the color. It is a pretty, mid-tone shade. Blue is know to have a calming effect psychologically. Pantone notes,” Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.

The Pantone Color Institute said, “It recognized similar feelings of instability gripping the world today, from the United States to the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Syria and across the globe. It settled on a shade that offers the reassurance, confidence and connection that people may be searching for in an uncertain global milieu.”

The practice of naming the Color of the Year began many years ago. In 1963, the Pantone company created a proprietary system, the Pantone Matching System. It is used in a variety of industries such as printing, graphic design and fashion design to manage colors. Since then, those in fashion and industries relying on color projections, look forward to this yearly announcement.
