I absolutely love my bedroom drapery. My room has an enormous triple window and two smaller windows flanking our bed. I chose black out curtains on wooden rods with rings. If I didn’t have black out curtains, we would be waking up at the crack of dawn. I wanted a light look in my master bedroom but regular fabric panels let too much sun-light through. That is not the light I want! I knew a black out lining would be necessary, thank goodness there is such a thing. With my ivory velvet black out panels, I now have the look I want with darkness at day break so and I can sleep in if I choose.
The other great thing about blackout curtains is that they can trap heat in during the winter and keep light and heat out during the summer. A lot of energy can be lost through the windows, approximately 10-25% of thermal energy loss goes out through the windows. Blackout curtains can prevent this loss by as much as 25%. That will also help reduce utility bills.
You can have custom made drapery and choose any fabric to be lined with black-out material. Then there is the less expensive route, as you can find black out curtains in just about any department or big box store like Target or WallMart. I found a great deal with semi-custom panels on a website called HPD or Half Price Drapes https://www.halfpricedrapes.com/ So there are many options.
If you are decorating any bedroom at all, definately consider black out curtains. I am so glad I did. Happy decorating!
